- Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. Just within driving distance, this conservation area encompasses 48,438 acres and includes a portion of the Mojave Desert. It is a prime spot for hiking, biking, and nature photography.
It is best known for the Sloan Canyon Petroglyph Site, a cultural site with more than 300 Native American rock art panels and almost 1,700 depictions of native cultures that hark back to the Archaic and historic eras.
- North McCullough Wilderness. This 14,790-acre recreation area is located within the Sloan Canyon NCA and offers miles of hiking and biking paths. Its unbridled landscape was formed out of volcanic activity with remnants of lava flows and ashfall throughout. The natural scenery is perfect for a solitary and memorable trip.
- Madeira Canyon Park. Located in Henderson, this park is known for summer BBQs with picnic shelters and grassy areas for outdoor gatherings. It also features a splash pad, walking trail, playground, ball field, and basketball and tennis courts.
- Black Mountain Trailhead. The 7.5-mile round trip hike ascends 2,054 feet to the summit of an ancient volcano and the highest peak of the North McCullough Range within the Sloan Canyon NCA. The summit offers sweeping views of the surrounding desert and native plant life.
- Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Located approximately 30 miles from Henderson, Lake Mead holds the distinction of being America’s first national recreation area. It encompasses over 1.5 million acres of slot canyons, mountains, canyons, and valleys populated by Joshua trees.
